1851 census launched- Dorsetshire and Norfolk added
The 1851 census, the last of the remaining Victorian censuses, has been launched on findmypast.com. The counties of Dorsetshire and Norfolk, comprising over 590,000 million records, are ready for you to search now.
A wealth of new census information
The 1851 census was the first to record:
- a person’s precise age
- birthplace
- relationship to the head of their household
- their marital status
- if they were blind, deaf, or dumb
Details of precise ages, marital status and relationships to head, in particular, can prove crucial to tracing the birth, marriage or death of a person. If you’ve gaps in your Victorian ancestral research, then the addition of this pivotal census could rapidly resolve them.
New images, new transcription
As ever, our images of the 1851 census are newly scanned to the highest possible grade. Likewise, our transcription of the census has been made afresh and cannot be found anywhere else online.
